Welcome to Hexar.Net

My name is Hexar, and I'm a software engineer.

I taught myself BASIC in the 3rd grade, and then taught myself C in the 7th.

In junior high and high school, I learned HTML, CGI, SSI, CSS, PHP, and C++, and created this website as a place to host photos, code samples, and a personal blog.

After high school, I attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and studied computer science. Over 3.5 years, I learned a lot about software development and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and a GPA of 3.944.

I worked on various programming projects in college, including a Win32 / DirectX Tetris clone that I'm very proud of. Both the installer and executable for this game are available here on my website.

After college, I spent four years working for National Instruments in Austin, TX as a software engineer. I was primarily working on the .NET and C++ interfaces to the DAQmx driver stack, so I spent a lot of time writing C++, Managed C++, and C++/CLI code, but I also wrote and maintained a lot of example applications in C# and Visual Basic .NET, as well as doing some Visual Studio integration work in C#.

After NI, I started working on the Visual Studio Core team at Microsoft, primarily doing bug fixing for the task list and toolbox in Visual Studio 2010.

After two years at Microsoft, and six years of professional software development, I decided to take some time off for an extended sabbatical. I spent the winter of 2010-2011 rock climbing and learning Spanish in Mexico, in a beautiful area called El Potrero Chico.

From July 2010 to early 2013, I worked as an Android app developer consultant for JRT Studio, and wrote a significant portion of iSyncr WiFi and Cheetah Sync.

From July 2012 until March 2014, I worked at 3102919021 as an Android Engineer, primarily writing Android apps for a variety of clients, although a couple of the projects I've worked on so far have been webapps (mainly PHP, Javascript, Python, AWS, etc). Some projects I've worked on:

  • iCookbook (Android)
  • Ratio Build Server (Internal - Python, Javascript, jQuery, HTML, CSS)
  • DocKit (PHP, Javascript, Java, HTML, CSS, AWS)
  • Secret Project 1 (Android - Retrieving and displaying content from a REST service via JSON/XML)
  • Secret Project 2 (Android - Custom UI for taking and viewing photos)
  • Amazon Workspaces (Android)
  • Fluke Connect (Android)

Lastly, I am currently employed at Peloton as a Senior Android Engineer, and have been mostly working on the Nordstrom Android app.
